Jeremy and Bethany A Stylish Wedding At Shilstone Devon

It was the wettest day on record, overnight rain had flooded the near by town of Modbury and the bridge we needed to cross was 4ft under water! But, we all got there safely!

The day started with a small and very personal ceremony in the Tower in the walled garden, this was the first ceremony to take place in here, and it was amazing how spacious it looks in the photos, there were Bethany and Jeremy, the parents and Jeremys brother along with the two registrars all in a tiny room!

We headed back to the house for coffee and lunch, whilst this was taking place I was off to the bridal room to concentrate on the details, the dress, the shoes etc. This room was richly decorated and suited the occasion perfectly, from here you could get a great view of people arriving and this led to some beautiful shots in between photograhs of Bethany and her mum getting ready.

Later in the day the Humanist Ceremony was performed by a retired Priest, who had known Bethany since a child, the parents read blessings and the brides sister in law sang, it was a very personal ceremony, if anything, the most personal and moving ceremony I have ever photographed. The original plan was to hold this ceremony in the gardens, but of course due to the weather it was brought into the dining room, a slighlty challenging one for me as there were no lights what so ever in the room, and with it being a dark day I had to think quick!

We later moved into the West Hall for the formal photos lit by 2 Bowens Studio lights, and then onto the outdoors, the speeches and the first dance, the day ended with fireworks and the couple had their 3rd change of the day and left in Jeremys stunning Mercededs sports car!

The flowers in the photographs were carefully put together by the ever talented Emma Vowles.

  1. the tradition of having that first look at the bride happen as she walks down the aisle can make this question a bit more complicated.
